Arnold “ToTo” Joseph Johnson was born December 1, 1956, in Asheville, North Carolina. He entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. A lifelong resident of Asheville, he was the son of the late David Johnson, and the late Hazel Robinson Johnson. He was also proceeded in death by his brother, Albert James Johnson.
ToTo was a 1975 graduate of Asheville High School. After high school, he joined the United States Army. In 1975 he received an honorable discharge due to service-related disabilities.
An extremely outgoing and fun-loving person, Arnold was a joy to be around. In his free time, he loved working in the yard, as well as cooking delicious meals for his wife.
He was a very devoted member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.
Fond memories of ToTo will forever be cherished by his loving wife Frances Johnson, son MKeka B. Copney (Shondrika), daughters Chelsea Moore and Candy Gossett, brother Alfred John Johnson (Mattie), grandchildren Kiarah Copney, Kaliq Moore, Ariyonna Gossett, LaKiesha Gossett, and Abby Blair, sister-in-law Patricia Johnson, and many MANY friends whose lives he will leave a never-ending impression upon!
A Funeral Service to honor the life of "ToTo" will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church (146 Pine St.), at 12pm. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Western Carolina State Veteran Cemetery in Black Mountain at 2pm following the funeral. He can be viewed on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church from 2pm - 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
