Anthony Bowditch Obituary

Anthony Dwight Bowditch was born in Asheville, North Carolina to George Glenn, Sr. and Cora Thompson Bowditch on January 2, 1957. A unique infant being the first child born in Buncombe County, North Carolina in the year of our Lord 1957.  Anthony’s maternal grandparents were Lazarus and Cynthia Fullwood Thompson and paternal grandparents Charlie and Mattie Ray.

He grew up in the Haw Creek area of Asheville attending Haw Creek Elementary and A.C. Reynolds High School (Class of 1975) making claim to his forever love for Big GREEN Country; A.C. Reynolds Rockets.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Jr., Fred, Charles and sister Judy Bowditch.

The joy and pleasures of his life were his family and many friends.  Left to cherish his memory are brothers, James Bowditch (Barbara) of Charlotte, NC, William (Michelle) Bowditch of Durham, NC and sister, Mary Bowditch-McAfee of Charlotte, NC.  Anthony was able to experience great love from his great nieces and nephews, MaKayla Thomas, Gavin, Christopher and Michael Bowditch, Audrick and Kylie Smith.  Acknowledgement of love to family members and friends during his recent illness extended to Roderick Smith, Andre Howard, Joseph Freeman, Henry Hill, Shirley Cox, Deborah Byrd and Charles Bowditch. Special thank you to Don Lunsford and Brandi for opening their home and giving care over the years. The family tree being too large to mention everyone but Anthony will be remembered and missed for his kindness and soft-spoken nature.

Anthony was a self-employed bricklayer and concrete finisher, doing work all around the Asheville area. A self-taught musician, he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing at functions, nursing homes for residents and often on the porch looking out at the beautiful mountains of his beloved Asheville. He enjoyed playing and being involved in competitive pocket billiards helping his team win pool matches.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, believing that God had embraced him throughout his life and was his Savior, Anthony peacefully joined the Angels to his new home in glory. Anthony loved all his family and friends and he will be watching and waiting for “Good News.”

Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Riverside Cemetery, 53 Birch St. Asheville, NC
