Alice Dorunda Jones

Alice Jones of 13-E Hillcrest Apartments Asheville North Carolina, departed this world Tuesday, March 14, 2023 to be with the lord. She was born July 7, 1950, daughter of the late Mrs. Picola Jones and the late Benny Jones. Alice was born in Chesnee South, Carolina.

She was well known living in Asheville, North Carolina 40+ years. She loved to fellowship with friends and family, was a great cook, not to mention this strong black woman worked hard to make ends meet. As God carried her on her journey, she was a home-maker work at Woolworth, Hammocks and also worked at Mission Hospital in her spare time. She loved fishing, going to church, and spending quality time with her family. Everywhere Alice went or whoever crossed her path was always greeted with a smile. She was strong black woman, a mother, grandmother, friend, sister that listened, was encouraging and would lift your spirit in time of need. She was always full of joy and laughter and believed that anything is possible if you continue to trust in the Lord.

Ms.  Alice Jones was preceded in death by her twin sister Minnie Jones, sister Lucy Mae Jackson and brother Benny Jones.

She is survived by her children Robert Jones, J.W. Jones, Mary Young Robinson (Walter), Johnny Lee Young Jr. (Shawn), Dorunda D. Young (Shawn), and Peacolion Cornett (Jeff),18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and family members that love and cherish her dearly.

A Funeral Service to honor the life of Ms. Alice Jones will be held Saturday March 25, 2023, at Worldwide Tabernacle Baptist Church (85 Choctaw St.) at 2pm. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Violet Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Friday March 24, 2023 from 2pm till 7pm. The service will be live streamed on Avery's Memorial Chapel's Facebook page.
