Walter Lee Fields, Jr.

Walter Lee Fields, Jr., affectionately known as Walt Jr., was born March 13, 1961 in Asheville, NC to Janice and Walter Fields.

Walt was a very caring and loving man. He attended Asheville High School where he graduated from in 1979. He served in the United States Navy for 8 years and was honorably discharged. He attended and completed the Gold & Green program, and was currently working for the Asheville housing authority.

Walter is preceded in death by his mother Janice Mills, sister Angela Fields and stepson Maurice Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Desirae Fields, five grandchildren; Amani Fields, Shyheim Fields, Alexis Edgerton, Perryasia Edgerton and Devin Fields, his longtime companion Sherry Thomas, four step-children; Sharmain Woods, Deon Thomas, Shavon Grier, and Nakeda Nichols, and also 14 additional grandchildren, his dad Walter Fields, Sr., stepmother Brenda Fields, sisters; Tonya Mays and Kim Mills, brothers; Robert Fields (Eugenia) and Howard Fields (Joyce) and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be held Friday April 5, at 3:00 pm at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church, located at 2 Herman Street. Rev. Leslie Hines will officiate.
