Richard J. White, Jr.

Richard James White, Jr. 72, born on July 5, 1945, transitioned to be with the Lord on Monday, June 4, 2018 at Care Partners Solace Center.

Richard was the son of the late Richard James White, Sr. and Dora Lee Seabrook-White.

He is preceded in death by his son, Robert A. White, sister, Leila Williams and brother, Danny White.

Richard was a “1963” graduate of Stephens Lee High School; where he served as a member of the basketball team, which won the “1962” AAAA State Championship. He was inducted into Stephens Lee High School Athletic Hall of Fame on July 5, 2008. He often sat on his front porch and told fond stories and memories to anyone who listened about his basketball days and he would show off his plaque. Richard also enjoyed playing pool and winning against his opponents.

Known fondly as “Hutnut”, Richard had a fun-loving spirit and would often say things to not only make you laugh but he would laugh at his own wit. His hearty laugh was unforgettable. 

Richard loved all types of music and would often get others to enjoy the music he listened to. He spent his life driving 18-wheel tractor trailer trucks and that became his passion. He drove for Ticar Chemical Company, Spartan Express and Ingles Markets before he was unable to work. Even after he stopped driving many conversations were about routes, freight, and on the road experiences.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years, Patricia A. White of Asheville, daughter, Renee F. White of Asheville, son, Richard J. White III (Stacy) of Elon, NC, grand-daughter Gabrielle White of Elon, NC, sisters; Vanessa White, Carita White, brother, Bruce White all of Asheville, God-daughters; Shateisha, Tamilia, Taleajah, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Service for Richard will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. James AME Church, 44 Hildebrand Street, Asheville, NC  28801. Viewing to be held one hour prior to the service.
