Mr. Richard “Rick” Gash, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, June 2, 2019 at his home. Our Heavenly Father has taken Him to be with Him in a land more Beautiful than he has ever, known.

Rick was born, July 24, 1950 in Asheville, NC to the late James Robert Gash, Sr. and his Mother, Ms. Edna Mae Ashley.  His Father preceded him in death.

He was a 1970 graduate of the Asheville High School where he dominated sports in the “1960”!  A great player and very talented athlete for the Cougars, he played baseball, football and basketball. Only 5’ feet 7’’ inches tall, he was a giant on the courts or fields no matter his statue!

He attended the Cecil Business College, served in the U.S. Navy for four years and the Naval Reserves for two years, retired from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) and worked part-time on several jobs including Brown Temple C.M.E. Church where he served as a member.

He was an advocate for children and was a nurturing father to his two sons.

Rick is preceded in death by a brother Ernest Charles Gash and a sister Antionette Barksdale.

Those left to cherish his memories are his beautiful mother, Edna Mae Ashley, sons; Devon Busha Gash, and Richard Samuel Gash, Jr. (Shyra) of Indiana Indianapolis, sister, Rev. Robbie Jean Williams, brothers; Rev. James Robert Gash, Jr. (San) and Mr. Phillip E. Ashley of Columbia, SC, six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
