Preston Ray Obituary

Mr. Preston Ray passed away on July 9, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born on March 25, 1937 in Mars Hill, NC to Valeria Ray.

He is preceded in death by 4 brothers, 1 sister, children; Ronnie Vance, Allen Goodman and Teresa Ray.

Mr. Ray retired from GTE. He was an Elder of God’s Ray of Hope International Non-Denominational Church where he was a hard-working, trusted, faithful member. He was a stellar singer and was a member of the Golden Tones and Brother’s of Faith. Preston was an avid fisherman.  He loved his family and friends.  

He is survived by his loving wife Apostle Inez Davis Ray, brother Elder Johnny Hayes, children; Brianna Elizabeth Inez Ray, Lonnie Vance (Angela), Myra Brezeale, Burke Brezeale, Hazel Bennett, Trina Goodman, Evangelist April Torres (Elder Tommy), Tara Sturdivant (Jeffrey), James Rice, Patricia Rice Griffin, Wendy O’Briant (George) 40 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Ray will be held on Saturday July 13, at 3:00 pm at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church located at 2 Herman St. in Asheville. A visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the funeral. There will be a public viewing held on Friday July 12th, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will immediately follow the services at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Mars Hill.
