Leroy James was born on August 25,1939 in Asheville, NC. He was the son of the late Anthony “Pop” James and Gertrude Rice James. He departed his life surrounded by his loved ones on October 5, 2018.
He was a dedicated employee at Gerber Plant for 30 plus years until he retired. Leroy was an avid sports fan with a special passion for bowling. He specially enjoyed taking family trips to Cincinnati, Ohio and to Carolina Coast Line beaches for bowling tournaments. He loved the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Braves and his dogs.
Leroy had a deep and sincere love for the love of his life Peggy Dillingham, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was known as "Daddy " and "Paw-Paw". He will be missed by all his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his siblings; John James, Anthony James Jr., Luca Mae Thomas and Rosa Lee Carson. Surviving to cherish his memories are his siblings; Curtis James (Barbara), Alonzo James of Cleveland, Ohio, Jackie James of New York, Joann White, Priscilla McDowell and Juanita McKay Larry James.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 12th at 1pm, at the Hill Street Missionary Baptist Church, at 135 Hill Street, Asheville, NC. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service. Burial will immediately follow at the Violet Hill Cemetery.
