Janice "Jenny" Yvonne Smith

Ms. Janice Smith, affectionately known to family and friends as “Jenny”, was born October 3, 1957 to the late Raymond, Jr. and Lula Mae Aiken Smith of Asheville, NC.

 “Jenny” graduated from Asheville High School Class of 1975. She went on to further her education by attending Mt. Olive College in Mt. Olive, NC. After attending college, she began her career as a Manufacturing Tech at Kellwood Manufacturing. After working there for 5 years she began working at Medical Action where she worked for over 25 years. There she began as a Line Tech and moved up to a Buyer in the administrative setting. She became the mother of two loving children Nikiva and Delaney Smith.

Throughout her life she was always a jewel to many and had the biggest heart. She was a seamstress by trade. Creating wedding gowns and clothing was a gift that she loved to do. Along with that she enjoyed music and singing. “Jenny” loved being with her family at various events and vacations. 

On the morning of Monday, January 28, 2019 God dispatched his angels to carry her from labor to reward. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond “Junie” Smith, III, Alvin “STONE” Smith; and her sister Sandra Ellington.

“Jenny” leaves to cherish her memories along with her children are grandchildren Jarques Smith, DeAndre Jackson, Dajah Wright, and Paridise Smith; great-grandchildren Josiah Smith and Ah’Maj Banks; brothers, Gerald “RIP” Smith and William “Billy” Smith; sisters, Cathy Smith, Maggie “Winky” Smith, and Stella Smith; one uncle and two aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday February 2, 2019. Family visitation will begin at 1:00pm with services beginning at 2:00pm with Rev. Calvin Hailstock officiating. Her mortal frame may be viewed at Avery's Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 1, 2019.
