Isaiah Tutt, 84, departed this life on June 21, 2018. He was born December 21, 1933 in Asheville, North Carolina, the son of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Siebert) Tutt. Isaiah was a graduate of Stephens Lee High School, Class of 1951. He excelled academically and was a star football player. Isaiah entered the United States Army on September 20, 1954, and after serving his country, he received an honorable discharge in August, 1962.
Isaiah married Juanita Frances Harper April 29, 1968. He was a loving, supportive, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He worked as a custodian for Asheville City Schools for many years. He later became employed with Lockheed Martin as a technician and advanced into a supervisory position until his retirement on January 1, 1999.
Isaiah had a winning smile, a sense of humor, and a love for reading. One of his most enjoyable past times was engaging in conversations about history and politics. Other interests included listening to jazz, cooking, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Isaiah was predeceased by his wife, Juanita Harper Tutt, his sisters: Annie Lee Dennis, Mary Alma Freeman, and Addie (Kitt) Cromwell; his brothers: Robert Tutt, Roy Lee Tutt, Joseph Tutt and Eddie Tutt. Survivors include one sister, Jessie Elizabeth Tutt; daughters: Anita Gail Francois (Irvin) of New Orleans, Louisiana and Gwendolyn Kirkland of Griffin, Georgia; sons: James Jay Hinsley, III of Asheville and Charles Lamar Hinsley (Lori) of Jamestown, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A service of remembrance will be held on July 2, 2018, 12:00 Noon, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, North Carolina. Pastor David Perry will officiate. Interment will follow.
