Derrick Steffone Johnson, Jr.

Derrick Steffone “DJ” Johnson of Asheville, NC passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Mission Hospital.
Born February 22, 1983 in Jacksonville, NC, he was the oldest son of Bishop Derrick Steffone Johnson and Lisa Roberts Allen.

DJ attended TC Roberson High School in Asheville, NC. After graduation he attended Western Carolina University. DJ was very proud of his success as a Chef and worked in several restaurants while enjoying his passion. DJ loved all sports, especially football. In his youth, he enjoyed playing football and basketball for South Buncombe Youth League.

In addition to his parents, Derrick is survived by: Great-Grandmother, Vera Morris of Gary, Indiana; Grandmother, Willye Mae Darden Watkins of Jacksonville, NC;  Grandfather, Tony Watkins of Jacksonville, NC;  Stepfather, Gary Allen of Asheville, NC;  Stepmother Neila Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA; Six brothers: Minister Datrian (Morgan) Johnson, Janick Allen, Darius Wheat, Chris (Ebony) Daniels, Jahmeir Adderley, SaiReef Hutton; Five sisters: Natasha Roberts, Gekara Allen, Tahisa McDaniel, Zamari Baird, Dasia Johnson. Derrick also leaves to cherish his memory a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for DJ will be held Tuesday January 8, at Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Carroll Ave., at 1pm.
