Mrs. Annie Ruth Burgess Collington was born on May 30, 1934 to the late Howard and Bertha Burgess in Spartanburg County, Spartanburg South Carolina and departed this life on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Asheville, North Carolina at the age of 84.
She graduated high school in Spartanburg County and went to college where she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was also a member of the Greater Asheville American Business Women’s Association (ABWA).
She was preceded in death by seven brothers; Thomas Burgess, Dock Williams Burgess, Crowell Burgess, Felix Burgess, Howard Burgess Jr., A.D. Burgess and Talmage Burgess; five sisters; Ellen Murray, Swannie Jackson, Vernell Landrum, Genell Teamer, and Florence Wilkins.
She leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories her loving son Walter Eric Splawn of the home and two grand daughters; Deshondra (Paul) Glenn and Sharon Cheek (Franklin Dennis); three beautiful great grandchildren; Paul Glenn IV, Rashad Cheek and Arianna Cheek, one surviving sister, Canaria Quander,
three sisters-in-law, Latha Burgess, Garnell Burgess, and Aldonia Burgess, two godsons; Theodis T. Beck of Jamaica, NY, Marlon E. Beck of Raleigh, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Collington will be held on Saturday, January 12th at Nazareth First Baptist Church on 146 Pine Street at 1pm. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park immediately following the service.
