Minister Albert "6"9" Franklin Booker of Black Mountain, on April 18th surrounded by his wife Sherri, along with other family members and friends, made his final request to be taken off of life support. On April 19th with Sherri by his side, he took his final breath and gained his wings to be Heaven bound while singing his favorite song, “I'm Just a nobody, trying to tell everybody, about somebody who can save anybody."
Albert, born on November 27, 1953, was the 13th child born to the late Pirlee Kinard Booker. He served in the US Army from 1977 till 1985.
He was known throughout Asheville and surrounding areas as "Papa Albert," alongside "Mama Sherri," even with those older than them. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he Served as an Instructor Over Road Tractor Trailer training men and women to become Operators, he was a part of ABCCM Outreach Ministries in Asheville, was also in charge of a Men’s Shelter, and also worked in the Veterans Quarters. He and Sherri were members of Varick Chapel AME Zion Church for some years, and served anywhere he was needed.
He leaves to cherish and celebrate his life his wife Sherri of Black Mountain, daughters Teri Lee of Asheville, Comatha Lanise of Charlotte, and Hayden Christine of Black Mountain, sons Chris Woods of Black Mountain, and Jonathan of SC, sisters Marie Littlejohn (Radway), Olivia Booker, and Syble Simpson (Alfred), all of Tryon, NC, Joyce White (Leroy) of Cleveland, OH, and Pastor Anna Byers-McDowell (Larry) of Spartanburg, SC, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends and acquaintances. He will be missed!
